Process Improvement Program Cuts Costs

To provide the highest value to its customers, Tektronix Component Solutions is constantly evaluating its manufacturing and business processes to look for ways to optimize time, materials, and labor usage. Recently, the company set out to reduce manufacturing waste and cut costs for an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) module for a customer's high-resolution medical imaging systems. Using the Danaher Business System (DBS) - a comprehensive set of tools developed by the Danaher Corporation (Tektronix' parent company) to enable continuous improvement in quality, delivery, cost and innovation - a Kaizen Event was selected as the best path to identify and eliminate waste in the imaging module's manufacturing flow. After gathering data collected in the pre-work for the Kaizen Event, it was determined that the module's tooling would be the focus of the 15-week process. The overall process resulted in 5% cost reduction, 0.5% yield increase, and a 60% reduction in product handling steps.
